POWER TALK 101: MINDSET
Mindset 101
What is mindset?
Dictionary Term
Noun: the established set of attitudes held by someone.
Let’s break it down further…
Attitude refers to a set of emotions, beliefs, and behaviors toward a particular object, person, thing, or event. Attitudes are often the result of experience or upbringing, and they can have a powerful influence over behavior.
Where are your deepest attitudes shaped from? Childhood, Work Environment, college?
Most of us are a product of our parents, and although I do not want to poo poo on our parents… they have had the most influence over us in our lives. This doesn’t mean whether you had a positive or negative upbringing that you are better or worse off, it means it’s something you will want to take into account when we dive into the next bullet point.
Growth Mindst vs. Fixed Mindset
Growth mindset, people have an underlying belief that their learning and intelligence can grow with time and experience. When people believe they can get smarter, they realize that their effort has an effect on their success, so they put in extra time, leading to higher achievement.
Fixed mindset, people believe their qualities are fixed traits and therefore cannot change. These people document their intelligence and talents rather than working to develop and improve them. They also believe that talent alone leads to success, and effort is not required.

Which one are you?
PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH:
Write down which one you relate to in this moment, fixed or growth?
Then write out your “set of attitudes” (this is what you believe about yourself in all facets of your life).
Next week I will go over how to repair a fixed mindset, and help you to growth! In the meantime if you like to read the book “Mindset” by Carol Dweck is an awesome starting point.
